In 1835 Manuel María González bought a small winery in Jerez which he named Tío Pepe after his uncle, who had taught him everything about winemaking traditions in Jerez. That fino would soon start to grow in status in both Spain and abroad to the point that today it stands as one of the most internationally prestigious and recognised Spanish brands.

Viña AB “Estrella de los Mares” and Noé, on Robert de Niro’s “Priceless menu”
Viña AB “Estrella de los Mares”, one of the most special of sherries, and Noé, an exclusive Very Old Pedro Ximénez, have been paired with part of the “Priceless Menu” that Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España created for Robert de Niro. The chefs who designed this culinary experience that the movie star enjoyed in the royal suite of the Mandarín Oriental Ritz Hotel were Mauro Colagreco, Joan Roca, Quique Dacosta, José Andrés and Martín Berasategui.

Tío Pepe to tour the world on board the Juan Sebastián de Elcano
“XC Palo Cortado” and “Amontillado Viña AB Estrella de los Mares”, are set to be joined by a new “there and back” wine, a very special 2016 vintage Tío Pepe made from grapes grown in two very different “pagos” (estates): Macharnudo and Carrascal. This Fino de Pago will be sailing on board the Spanish Navy Training Ship that sets off on its 94th instructional voyage on 12th February, being the last of the commemorative events marking the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the planet.

Amontillado Viña AB “Estrella de los Mares” has returned to the González Byass cellars. This Sherry has spent 10 months touring the world aboard the Spanish Navy’s “Juan Sebastián de Elcano Training Ship” on a voyage that has commemorated the first circumnavigation of the world, by Magellan-Elcano, 500 years ago.
