The Tío Pepe neon will stop illuminating Puerta del Sol plaza in central Madrid on Saturday 25 March at 8.30 pm. With this scheduled blackout, the famous neon sign will join "Earth Hour", an action that, year after year, shows that the fight against climate change is real and possible. In this campaign, the largest global initiative in the defence of the environment, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights to show their commitment to the planet.
For an hour, the lights of this historic neon sign will stop illuminating Madrid’s Puerta del Sol to support this symbolic action with a global impact. Citizens, governments and companies from all over the world will unite to try to raise awareness of the effects of global warming and demand action to control CO2 emissions.
Famous monuments and buildings such as the Royal Palace of Madrid or the Sagrada Familia of Barcelona, among others, will become the best stage for celebration and tribute to the planet. One more year, González Byass will turn off its Tío Pepe neon sign, a true symbol of the Spanish capital.
