Antonio Flores from González Byass, best winemaker in the world

Published on

Passion, dedication and professionalism mark the career of Antonio Flores, "Best Winemaker of Fortified Wines in the World", according to the Winemaker of the Year awards, organised by the International Wine Challenge. González Byass’ top oenologist and master blender received this award, which he already obtained in 2009, during a gala awards ceremony held in London. Also, Amontillado Cuatro Palmas, one of his great works, was recognised as Best Fortified Wine of 2016.

The extraordinary work of wine classification at the cellars carried out by Flores, together with the recovery and dissemination of some historic sherry gems such as the Finos Palmas Collection or Tío Pepe en Rama, have proved decisive in granting him this honour. The results obtained by Sherry González Byass in the latest edition of the International Wine Challenge have been equally crucial: Cuatro Palmas, a Very Old Amontillado aging at González Byass for the last 51 years, made a great impression at this competition.

Driver of the González Byass #SherryRevolution, the global movement that has led to a new golden age for sherry worldwide, Antonio Flores has preserved the character and style that, from the foundation of González Byass in 1835, have featured every wine treasure made at this Jerez winery.
