González Byass achieves best results ever at Decanter World Wine Awards

Published on

All the world’s great wines have been tasted over the 17 years the Decanter World Wine Awards, organised by UK trade publication Decanter, have taken place.  Those that have won a platinum Medal this year include Sherries from González Byass: Tío Pepe Cuatro Palmas, Tío Pepe Tres Palmas, Del Duque Very Old Amontillado V.O.R.S and Noé Very Old Pedro Ximénez V.O.R.S.

The jury for this wine competition, which comprised the cream of international tasters, highlighted the character of Tío Pepe Cuatro Palmas, a Very Old Amontillado (Amontillado Viejísimo), and Tío Pepe Tres Palmas, a Fino Amontillado. Both demonstrate the ageing potential of the most universal Fino Sherry: Tío Pepe. The two wines are part of the Tío Pepe Finos Palmas Collection – unique, rare wines that each come from a single butt.

Other outstanding performers at this year’s Awards were Del Duque Amontillado Muy Viejo and Noé Pedro Ximénez Muy Viejo, two vinous jewels that spent more than 30 years ageing deep in the González Byass cellars. These wine treasures, which retain their personality and individuality throughout their ageing, have been certified as V.O.R.S (Very Old Rare Sherry) by the D.O. Jerez’s Regulatory Council.

These historic results are a recognition of the uniqueness of the wines produced by this family winery, which was founded in Jerez de la Frontera 185 years ago. A style maintained across the years is still very much alive today thanks to the patience, cosseting and constancy that are integral to how González Byass make their wines.
