Founded in 1875 by Luis Pereira in honor of his wife, Carolina Iñiguez, Viña Santa Carolina stands as one of Chile’s most iconic wineries, with 150 years of history and tradition, one of the oldest in Chile. The winery’s historic cellars located in the center of Santiago, were declared a National Monument in 1973. A symbol of the winery’s enduring heritage and commitment to preserving its rich history. The winery remained in the hands of the founders until 1974 when it was acquired by the Larrain family who have overseen its growth and success ever since.
Among its many achievements, Santa Carolina holds the distinction of earning Chile’s first international wine recognition when the Santa Carolina Reserva de Familia Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded a Gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889, an iconic wine which remains in the portfolio today.
Santa Carolina’s identity is defined by three core pillars: Heritage, honoring the legacy that has shaped the winery over the decades; Relevance, a commitment to remaining timeless and evolving; and Respect, a dedication to preserving the stories that define its character.
The winery controls vineyards in 7 different regions in Chile representing the wide range of soils and climates which define the wines produced in Chile and allow for such diversity.
The pillars of Santa Carolina’s winemaking philosophy are continuous improvement of the quality of its wines and the development and use of innovative production techniques at vineyard and winery levels. The mission of Santa Carolina’s winemaking team is to consistently produce wines of quality and with a unique identity.
