Los Danzantes, part of the Mexican craft mezcal movement, is located in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca — widely recognised as the world capital of mezcal. Founded in 1995, the distillery is deeply connected to the cultural heritage, biodiversity and ancestral traditions of the region.
Los Danzantes works closely with local producers and farming communities who cultivate native agave varieties across different areas of Oaxaca. The production team carefully selects each agave according to species, maturity, terroir and growing conditions, ensuring the highest quality raw material for every expression. Rather than focusing on industrial-scale production, the brand prioritises traditional craftsmanship, sustainability and respect for the natural life cycle of the agave.
Production follows ancestral methods passed down through generations, including cooking the agave in underground stone pit ovens, natural fermentation in wooden vats and copper still distillation. Under the direction of Master Distiller Karina Abad Rojas, a trained biochemist, Los Danzantes combines scientific knowledge with traditional expertise to preserve authenticity while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
Its portfolio includes both classic Espadín mezcals — Joven, Reposado and Añejo — as well as limited productions made from indigenous agave varieties such as Arroqueño, Coyote and Tobalá. The resulting mezcals are complex, expressive and deeply representative of Oaxaca’s landscape, offering smoky, herbal and mineral characteristics balanced by elegance and freshness.
